The K-Beauty Skincare Routine
Korean skincare is built on one simple idea: layer lightweight, targeted formulas in the right order so each one absorbs well and does its job. Whether you're new to K-beauty or already a fan, this 9-step guide will help you build a routine that works for your skin. You don't need every step every day — start with the basics and add as you go.
Step 1: Oil Cleanser
Start with an oil-based cleanser to dissolve makeup, impurities and excess sebum without stripping your skin barrier. This is the first half of the famous double cleanse.
Step 2: Water-Based Cleanser
Follow with a gentle water-based cleanser to remove any remaining impurities and sweat. Together with the oil cleanser, this completes the double cleanse.
Step 3: Exfoliator
Use 2–3 times per week to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and smooth texture. Choose a gentle scrub or a chemical exfoliant (AHA, BHA or PHA).
Step 4: Toner
K-beauty toners hydrate rather than dry out. They rebalance your skin after cleansing and help it absorb the next steps more effectively.
Step 5: Essence
The heart of K-beauty. Essences are lightweight, concentrated formulas that deeply hydrate and leave skin looking fresh and healthy.
Step 6: Serum & Ampoule
Target specific concerns with concentrated serums and ampoules — brightening, firming, calming or blemish care. This is where your routine becomes personal.
Step 7: Mask
Treat your skin 1–2 times per week with a sheet mask, sleeping mask or wash-off mask for an extra boost of hydration, glow or calm.
Step 8: Eye Care
The skin around the eyes is delicate and needs its own care. Eye creams and serums help with the look of dark circles, puffiness and fine lines.
Step 9: Moisturizer
Seal in every layer with a moisturizer suited to your skin type. It locks in hydration and supports a healthy skin barrier for a plump, smooth complexion.
